If you want to explore the hidden gems of undiscovered locations and sights most tourists don’t know about, going on a road trip is definitely the best way for traveling. Even sitting in a hot car for long hours seems nothing, when you can feel the freedom of going somewhere most people are unaware of. Stopping whenever you want can often lead to wonderful experiences. Even though you can stop almost everywhere and any time, having a perfect road trip still requires some planning. How many miles do you have to drive and where to eat are just some of the questions travelers have to face. Here are some of the tips on how you can have the most adventurous and fun road trip of your life.

1.Avoid highways

Yes, you do want to get to your destination as soon as possible but have you thought about all the scenery you might miss when you use highways? if you use smaller roads, you can visit small and adorable villages filled with friendly locals or taste authentic local food in tiny diners. Sometimes small roads are located near the ocean or sea, so you can stop your car any moment and go to the beach to take some great pictures. Most of the time there are also no traffic jams because most people use highways when traveling.

2. Choose your travel buddies carefully

Traveling together can often make or break your friendship, so make sure you get along with the people you have to share a car with for many hours. Also, travel with people who have the same goals and interests as you- choosing a person who likes to visit history museums isn’t probably a good idea when you are a big fan of visiting different bars.

3. Don’t book your accommodation ahead

Booking a hotel or hostel ahead can be a good thing if you are visiting a city during popular dates, but if it’s not a tourist season, you should definitely skip it! You never know what can happen during a road trip- your car may break, you may get stuck in an incredibly bad traffic jam or you may see a place you want to visit that you didn’t know about when planning the trip. In addition to that, you can sometimes find much better deals when you don’t book from a website.

4. Keep your kids entertained

Kids can be incredibly whiny when they need to sit in one place for a long time, so it’s always a good idea to bring them something fun to play with in order to keep them distracted. These days there are also many toys and games that are meant for long road trips, but you can also bring some coloring books, sticker books, small dolls, and cars or even audio books. And if that doesn’t help, some good old tongue twisters or word games work almost always!

4. Buy a trustworthy GPS

We know, you probably weren’t even thinking about using an old school map for your road trip, but even using google maps isn’t always the best option. While Google maps uses a lot of data and drains your battery, a good GPS is always there for you.
